Unmasking partisanship: Polarization undermines public response to collective risk

Political polarization may undermine public policy response to collective risk, especially in periods of crisis when political actors have incentives manipulate perceptions. We study these dynamics the U.S., focusing on how partisanship has influenced use face masks stem spread COVID-19. Using a variety approaches, we find is single most important predictor mask and local interventions do not offset this relationship.
